Part of our History

Villa George is a unique residence of accommodation with many special features and historical characteristics of a Cretan farmhouse of the past. In the garden you will discover a water tank that collected rain water from the roof. It owns a traditional wine press that was used for the production of must, a private distillery as well as a wine cellar for the storage of must that would become wine.

Another important farm activity that is included in the residence, is the existence of a threshing floor that separated the wheat from the hay for the production of bread. For your pleasant and cool stay, we added a large pool in the garden and many exterior amenities so you may enjoy starlit nights in the countryside, such as the wooden swing.

The wine cellar

The wine cellar is located on the ground floor and has traditional oak barrels. After the squashing of the grapes at the wine press that is found at the villa’s garden, the grapes become must and it was stored in the cellar’s barrels. With the passing of time, through the process of fermentation, the must turns into wine.

The distillery

Villa George owns a traditional, private distillery since 1894 that was used for the production of home-made tsikoudia. Tsikoudia or else ‘raki’ is the traditional alcohol drink of Crete that derives from the distillation of grapes and it accompanies every meal. It is always served as a welcome, complimentary drink to every guest.

Swimming pool

In the garden we added a tasteful swimming pool that measures 20sqm. The pool has a modern chlorination system that is kids-friendly and keeps the pool crystal clear. In the pool, we have created a specially allocated space, with built in steps, for the little ones, that is very shallow so that the parents can feel safe. Around the swimming pool you will find sun loungers, umbrellas and a brand new wooden swing for moments of relaxation.

For your convenience, Villa George offers a car rental service that allows you to explore the beauty of Crete at your own pace. Whether you wish to discover the stunning beaches of Akrotiri, venture into the old town of Chania, or drive through the scenic Cretan countryside, having your own vehicle makes all the difference. Simply let us know your dates and preferences, and we will arrange everything for you.
